AMONG the news that recently emerged on the Captain America movie, director Joe Johnston did give away some casting details. He said they were looking for a “complete unknown” and also explained: “We’re testing five or six guys. The youngest is 23, the oldest is 32. Most of the guys in the war are just kids, 18 or 19, but we want to go a little bit older.” Since those remarks, the website Big Shiny Robot has published a piece citing a source who claims to know the names of three of the candidates: Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural).
The site point out it’s not saying these are the top three choices or the only choices, just that they are among the auditionees. If we refer back to Johnston’s comments, 31-year-old Ackles and 28-year-old Murray fall within the ages stated but McPartlin is 34, above the age of the oldest contender. In addition, none of these three are ‘complete unknowns.’ So, for the moment, take this as a big shiny rumour to add to the bubbling pot of casting speculation. Ackles topped a Geek Files poll of possible actors who could play Captain America. He was among the candidates in a casting call series I ran on here. Various actors have recently said they were screen-testing for the role, or hoping to do so. The First Avenger: Captain America is set for release on July 22, 2011. The character will then appear alongside Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and others in The Avengers team-up movie in 2012. [SOURCE] |

Jensen would be perfect. He is so overlooked as an actor, but I think he’s awesome. He can convey so much emotion with just one look that he knocks you over.

Jensen would be an excellent choice to play Captain America but I think scheduling might be an issue if there is a season 6 of Supernatural. Ah well, he’ll get his big break some day. I fully expect an Academy Award in his future.
