‘Supernatural’ Spoilers
The fifth season of Supernatural has left us with plenty of mysteries to chew on while the show takes a long holiday break: Where is God? What or who else can’t be killed by the Colt? What will happen to Lucifer and the Apocalypse? These questions will be haunting fans until Supernatural returns for the rest of its fifth season. In the meantime, check out our spoilers after the jump, and you’ll find what you need to prepare yourself for the show’s return on January 21.

When we last saw Supernatural, the Winchester brothers attempted to kill Lucifer with the Colt only to discover that it can’t kill him. Lucifer then sacrificed several demons to summon Death, while Castiel managed to free himself from his trap and took the brothers to Bobby’s where they silently grieve over Ellen and Jo’s death.

Episode 5.11 “Sam, Interrupted”

  • The first episode of the new year will feature Sam and Dean in a mental institution.
  • SpoilerTV reveals that this episode involves a character named Martin Creaser, a weathered man and a former hunter who has ended up in a psych ward, where strange happenings are afoot.
  • A beautiful and smart psychiatrist who seems to understand Dean’s conflict and pains will also be featured.
  • According to the CW’s official description, this episode is about a “former hunter named Martin, who is currently institutionalized, calls Sam [Jared Padalecki] and Dean [Jensen Ackles] for help investigating a case in the mental hospital. The brothers get themselves admitted as patients to check out the mysterious monster that is attacking the patients, but their incarceration pushes both to the breaking point as they unleash their inner demons against each other.”

Episode 5.12 “Swap Meat”

  • Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reports that Sam and Dean switch bodies in this episode.
  • According to SpoilerTV, two characters will be significantly featured. The first one is Gary, a 17-year-old amateur Satanist who works at a fast food restaurant. He wishes for a lot of things, including freedom from his rich and cruel parents, and eventually starts to live the life he wants when one of his wishes is granted. The other character is named Nora, a 16-year-old amateur Satanist who is described as smart yet conflicted. Though she doesn’t intend to hurt anyone, she tags along with Gary because of her infatuation for him. Later, she becomes possessed by a dark force.
  • Colton James, who is known for his appearance in The Lost World: Jurassic Park as well as his role of T-Bone on 7th Heaven, will play the role of Gary, a teenage nerd who switches bodies with Sam. As Sam, Gary takes advantage of his handsome looks by hitting on women and getting drunk. Sam, on the other hand, is trapped in Gary’s body while dealing with high school issues.

Episode 5.13 “Back to the Future II”

  • Misha Collins, who plays Castiel on Supernatural, tells Digital Spy that “we’re working on an episode where we go back to 1978 and meet a young Mary and young John – the parents of Sam and Dean. It’s a pretty intense mythology episode where basically someone is traveling back in time to try to kill them and prevent Sam and Dean from being born, thereby heading off the apocalypse. We go back in time to try to save the parents so Sam and Dean live.”

Episode 5.14 “My Bloody Valentine”

  • This episode will explore the nature of love and desire in a very dark and sinister way.
  • Cupid will appear as a “doughy, out of shape and naked” mythical character that greets everyone with enormous bear hugs.
  • This episode will also feature Famine, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, who is described as a “creepy and destructive old man filled with a voracious hunger.”

Episode 5.15 “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid”

  • A character named Sheriff Mills appears as a tough law enforcer in a small town though is surprisingly calm under pressure even when things turn very personal, according to SpoilerTV.
  • There will also be a young and attractive blonde who happens to be a straight shooter.

Episode 5.16 “Dark Side of the Moon”

  • Previously entitled “Your Whole Life Flashes Before Your Eyes,” this episode features a Morgan Freeman type character named Joshua who, according to SpoilerTV, is described as dignified.

Episode 5.17 “99 Problems”

  • According to SpoilerTV, this episode will feature two pivotal characters: Pastor David Gideon, a kind and down-to-earth preacher who’s been tasked with leading a militia against the impending Apocalypse, and his daughter Abby, a girl-next-door type who appears to be an important weapon in the fight against evil.

Other Supernatural Spoilers:

  • As mentioned previously, Supernatural is doing a twist on post-modern zombies. Additionally, Eonline.com reveals that “Sam and Dean find a town where everyone’s loved ones come back to life as zombies but they’re nice, friendly, non-brain-eating zombies…oh, and one of them is Bobby’s dead wife.”
  • Prophet Chuck is set to return though Supernatural-fangirl girlfriend Becky is not likely to tag along.
  • Chad Lindberg will reprise his role as Ash.
  • Sam will use his powers again before Supernatural wraps up its fifth season, and as expected, Dean won’t be pleased about it.
  • Supernatural will celebrate its milestone 100th episode with an hour that focuses largely on Dean (Jensen Ackles), according to Entertainment Weekly.
  • According to Eonline.com, Sam and Dean are going to die— and will go to heaven. That means viewers will also get a peek at what heaven looks like in Supernatural lore.
