| Supernatural: Sam and Dean Meet Their ‘Brother’ in a New Video |
|
On this week’s episode of Supernatural the question isn’t whether or not Sam and Dean could have a brother – not if you ask their supposed kin Adam. He wants to know whether it’s possible that he himself has brothers, whether John Winchester could have had sons other than him. Earlier in the week The CW released two new clips from “Jump the Shark”, Supernatural‘s none-too-soon return to the air after another tedious break. At least it’s the last break of this season. One of those clips revealed that Sam’s research on Adam validates his story, with college records and other official documents on file. In the other, Dean seethed with jealousy when he found out that John took Adam to a Minnesota Twins game, a day that would have meant the world to him. Today we have another clip from “Jump The Shark,” portraying the further developments in the relationship between the ghost fighting duo and their supposedly-long-lost brother, another piece in the puzzle of whether or not this goofy kid could really be who he says he is, and whether or not Supernatural has jumped the shark.
If Adam can grab the utensils does that prove he’s not a demon? What would? At what point could Dean stop looking for the catch in the fine print and accept, with open arms or otherwise, that this really is his brother? By the same token when could fans accept that this isn’t a clever gimmick by that pork rinds gobbling ghoul The Trickster, or Lilith in another form, or a test by the angels? If in the end the episode’s twist was that there was no twist would fans decree forever after that this was the episode where Supernatural jumped the shark? Or will the series have fans rolling their eyes for telling another story in which Sam and Dean fall for an illusion against their better instincts? Since this is Supernatural my guess is there’s a good answer waiting at the end of the story. Which would be worse?

I, for one, will not be too happy if this turns out to be Dean and Sam’s half-brother. First of all I don’t care for the actor portraying the role. And second, there is no need for something (someone) like this to just pop in at this period of the series. The last thing Dean has to concern himself with is some stranger claiming to be their long-lost brother. Doesn’t work for me. I am dreading the confrontation between Dean and Sam that is coming at the end of the season but at the same time I am tired of these rather “stalling” episodes of late. I have enjoyed them for what they are- fillers-but I am ready for the meat and potato course now.
