People Magazine recently released their annual “Sexiest Man Alive” issue, with Australia star Hugh Jackman taking top honors for 2008.  Other sexy men listed in the issue include Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm, High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron and Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson.  Overall it’s not a terrible list, but it leaves off two very important names: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.  Supernatural may not be as buzzed about as Twilight or Zanessa, but how can People ignore two of the hottest men on television?

The biggest problem with People‘s list is that it’s very of the moment, celebrating guys who are at the height of their popularity.  That’s the only way to explain the inclusion of Michael Phelps, who would only be considered sexy in a world where everyone wears bags over their heads.  It’s also no coincidence that people like Hugh Jackman and Robert Pattinson currently have big movies in theaters.  Unfortunately, Supernatural is a show in its fourth season on a small network, which means People isn’t paying much attention to it.  However, they are paying attention to Gossip Girl.  Ed Westwick also made the list.

People Magazine may favor who’s hip over who’s truly hot, but here at BuddyTV we know exactly who would make our “Sexiest Man Alive” cover.  In fact, we’d have to change the title of the issue to “Sexiest Men Alive” so we wouldn’t have to choose between Jensen and Jared.  Both guys are great actors and genuinely charming individuals, but they also deserve to be celebrated for their sexiness.  People refused to honor them, so we’re picking up the torch and running with it.

Maybe People will listen to our advice and include the boys in 2009
